Venice Beach Chair 3.0

€250.00

The name “Venice Beach” is derived from the Venetsia chairs, which were used as frame donors. Although commonly known in Finland as Venetsia chair, the original version was called the Cesca chair, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928.

The name seemed fitting, as skateboarding has its origins in California where Venice Beach is home to surfers and skaters since the beginning.

The original chairs tend to fail over time when the woven seat area gets holes and does not look great anymore. This is why these frames were the perfect base for my own version of free swinging chairs. Damaged chairs are easily obtained and restored to full glory.

Each chair consists of three skateboard decks and the frame, connected rivets for a secure fit. The boards are cut to width, receive rounded over corners after which they are sanded and cleaned from left over grime. Every used skateboard tells a story and has meaning to the one who skated it. Scratches, worn off graphics, stickers or hand writing are all part of the journey. This leaves the board with the skater’s individual signature over time.

All of this is the reason why the scratches and marks of skateboarding are not removed. They are the new character of the chair and a piece of art on their own. Pairing colors and themes to make one wholesome new piece is a big part of building these chairs.

Refurbished. Re-imagined. One of a kind.

Dimensions:
Height: 76-79cm
Depth: 52cm
Width: 50cm
Seat height: 43cm
Seat depth: 40-45cm (depending on the deck width)
